Farm Map Generator

One click draws a farmstead on a five-foot grid: the farmhouse and barn, the yard and well, the pens beside them and the fields across the track.

Today's first roll

Hollow Holding

A farmhouse and a barn round a well in the yard, with a pigsty and a sheep pasture beside them and a cabbage patch, a ploughed field and a wheat field across the track. The farmer's eldest went to market a week ago and hasn't come back.

The farm map generator draws a working farmstead on five-foot squares. A cart track runs across the lower part of the sheet from one edge to the other. Above it is the farmyard, fenced, with a lane down to the track. The farmhouse stands at one top corner of the yard: a kitchen at the front with the hearth on the end wall, a long table and two benches, and a bedroom at the back with two beds and a chest. The barn stands at the other corner, with four stalls along the outer wall holding cattle, a pig or a heap of hay, bales stacked on the floor, the cart, a ladder up to the loft and double doors opening onto the yard. In the yard itself are the well with its windlass, a chicken coop with the hens scratching round it, one or two haystacks, a water trough and a woodpile. On either side of the yard is one of an orchard in rows, a duck pond fringed with reeds, a fenced pigsty in the mud, or a sheep pasture. Across the track, two or three fields run to the bottom edge: wheat, a ploughed field, a cabbage patch or a cattle pasture. Every place is numbered and keyed.

How the farm is laid out

Farms like this follow the work. The house and the barn face each other across the yard so the farmer can see both from the kitchen door. The well is in the middle, the coop is by the house where the eggs are collected, and the haystacks are by the barn. The animals that need watching are next to the yard, and the crops that only need the plough are across the track. The fields are fenced, and trees line the track where the hedges grow.

What happens on a farm

Farms are where a lot of adventures start and where some of the best small ones happen. Something has been taking the sheep. The barn is where the farmer's son hid the stranger, and the loft is where the stranger is now. A farm under siege by goblins or the walking dead is a defence scenario with real choices: the house has one door and a hearth, the barn has a loft to shoot from, and the yard fence won't stop anything. The fields are open ground where nothing can hide, except in the wheat.

Free SVG and PNG downloads

Both formats are free for your games, streams and published adventures. The PNG is a 1920-pixel render ready for Roll20, Foundry or Owlbear Rodeo, and the Print button gives you a black-and-white sheet for the table. The SVG is the vector original: open it in Inkscape, Affinity or Figma to burn the barn, flood the pond or move the herd. Everything on the map is drawn by our own code, so there's no attribution to carry and no asset licence to read.

What it won't do

It draws one farmstead. It doesn't draw the village down the track, the woods beyond the fields or the farmhouse's upper floor. For the village, roll a village map; for the woods, a forest map; for the manor that owns the land, a manor map.

Name the farm and the family

The halfling name generator and the D&D human name generator name the family, the town name generator names the nearest market town, and the witch name generator names whoever lives at the edge of the fields.

Frequently asked questions

What's on a farm map?
A farmhouse with a kitchen and bedroom, a barn with stalls, hay, a cart and a loft ladder, a fenced yard with a well, a chicken coop and haystacks, two of an orchard, duck pond, pigsty and sheep pasture beside the yard, and two or three fields across the track.
What scale is the farm map?
One square is five feet, the standard for D&D 5e, Pathfinder and most d20 games. The scale is printed on the sheet beside the farm's name.
Can I use it to defend a farm?
Yes, it works well for a siege. The farmhouse has one door and thick walls, the barn has a loft with a view over the yard, the yard fence is low enough to climb, and the fields are open ground any attacker has to cross.
Can I use the maps in a published adventure or a paid product?
Yes. The maps are drawn entirely by our own code with no third-party art or asset packs, so there's nothing to license. Use them in games, streams, zines and published modules. A credit is appreciated but not required.
Can I put it on Roll20 or Foundry?
Yes. Download the PNG and drop it on a scene, then set the grid to match the squares. The SVG scales to any size if you need a sharper image.
Does the farm have animals on it?
Yes. There are hens round the coop, cattle or pigs in some of the barn stalls, and whichever pens and pastures the farm rolled: pigs in the sty, sheep in the pasture, ducks on the pond and cattle in the field across the track.
