The manor map generator draws a country house and its formal garden on five-foot squares. The house stands across the top of the sheet. Its front door opens into an entrance hall with a chequered floor that runs the full depth of the house to the grand stair at the back. One wing holds the dining room at the front, with its long table set and a fire in the hearth, and the kitchen behind it, with the range, the work table and a back door for deliveries. The other wing holds the drawing room or the music room at the front and the library or the study behind it. About half the houses also have a glass conservatory full of plants on the end of one wing. Below the house, a gravel drive runs down through a formal garden of hedged flower beds to the gates, around a fountain or a sundial, and the coach house stands to one side. Every room is numbered and keyed.
How the house is laid out
Country houses of this kind follow a plan anyone who has visited one will recognise: a central hall that impresses visitors, public rooms at the front where the windows look over the garden, and the working rooms at the back. The generator keeps that. The entrance hall is always central, every wing room opens off it, and the kitchen always has its own back door so the servants never need to use the front.
Each room is furnished for its use. The dining room has a table for twelve. The drawing room has a rug, a sofa, two armchairs and a fireplace; the music room has a grand piano as well. The library has shelves on two walls and a free-standing bookcase, and the study is the same with fewer books and a more private desk. The garden's beds are laid out in pairs either side of the drive.
Mysteries, heists and haunted houses
A manor is where a lot of good adventures take place: a murder at dinner, a theft from the library, a haunting, a ball where everyone is lying. The map gives the scene the rooms it needs. Everyone in the dining room can see each other, the library has a desk worth searching, the conservatory has glass walls and nowhere to hide, and the kitchen is where the servants know everything. The coach house is the way out if someone needs to leave in a hurry.
Free SVG and PNG downloads
Both formats are free for your games, streams and published adventures. The PNG is a 1920-pixel render ready for Roll20, Foundry or Owlbear Rodeo, and the Print button gives you a black-and-white sheet for the table. The SVG is the vector original: open it in Inkscape, Affinity or Figma to add a secret passage, move the body or redecorate. Everything on the map is drawn by our own code, so there's no attribution to carry and no asset licence to read.
What it won't do
It draws the ground floor and the garden. It doesn't draw the bedrooms upstairs, the cellars or the estate beyond the garden wall. For a grander seat of power, roll a palace map; for the village at the manor's gates, a village map.
Name the family, then call on them
The villain name generator names whoever owns the house, the vampire name generator names who really owns it, and the ghost name generator names whoever never left.
